The State of New Jersey, Division of Criminal Justice, was awarded approximately $61 million in its Federal fiscal year (FFY) 2016 VOCA award, of this amount, $36,000,000 will support the VOCA VAG program, which awards funding to nonprofit agencies that serve victims of crime. Applicants may apply for a maximum of $300,000 per project for a 20-month grant period. These funds will be awarded on a competitive basis. To make sure agencies understand the process and submit thorough applications, training is being offered.
“Victims of crime often need assistance to move on with their lives. New Jersey has many nonprofit agencies that assist victim with various needs. To make sure that they have the resources they need, grant funding is available and training workshops are being offered to make the application process as easy as it can be for providers,” said Attorney General Porrino. “Together, we can get the appropriate services to those who need them – innocent victims who may have been traumatized or injured.”
During the Training Workshop, DCJ and OAG staff will explain the application process, including topics such as the proposal format and the required components of the project narrative and budget narrative, as well as the eligibility requirements to receive grant funding.
The VOCA Grant Application Training Workshops are open to applicants of all programs funded under VOCA, including, but not limited to, the Victim Assistance Grant (VAG) program for non-profit victim services organizations, the VOCA County Office of Victim Witness Advocacy grant program for County Prosecutors’ Offices, the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART)/Forensic Nurse Examiner (FNE) grant program, and the New Jersey Enhanced Statewide Human Trafficking Victim Services grant program. Agencies are encouraged to send multiple staff members to the training, and recommend at least one program staffer and one fiscal staff member attend.
