The Department boasts the largest law enforcement agency in the state of New Jersey – the New Jersey State Police. With over 3,000 State Troopers and 1,500 civilians specializing in various public safety responsibilities, the Department is dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of all residents. In addition, three of the Department’s Divisions employ detectives who investigate criminal activity: the Division of Criminal Justice, the Office of Public Integrity & Accountability, and the Office of the Insurance Fraud Prosecutor. The Juvenile Justice Commission also provides employment opportunities for sworn correctional officers who assist with juvenile education, rehabilitation, and reentry.

New Jersey State Police (NJSP) is the largest law enforcement agency in New Jersey, with nearly 2,800 enlisted and 1,250 civilian members. In addition to its statewide law enforcement jurisdiction, NJSP also houses the Office of Emergency Management, which coordinates statewide emergency services during natural and manmade disasters.

Division of Criminal Justice

The Division of Criminal Justice is responsible for investigating and prosecuting violations of New Jersey criminal laws. With a staff consisting of over 400 detectives, prosecutors, civil investigators, and professional support personnel, DCJ investigates criminal activity across the state, focusing on high-impact cases that require significant or highly specialized investigative resources.

Juvenile Justice Commission

Juvenile Justice Commission

As New Jersey’s lead juvenile justice agency, the Juvenile Justice Commission (JJC) provides care, custody, and rehabilitative services to youth committed to the agency by the courts; supervises and coordinates services for youth on parole; and supports local efforts to provide prevention and early intervention services to at-risk and court-involved youth.
