No Hate in the Garden State Youth Competition

No Hate in the Garden State Youth Competition

The Office of the Attorney General, the Division on Civil Rights (DCR), and the Division on Criminal Justice (DCJ) invite middle and high school students with a passion for civil rights and social justice to participate in our No Hate in the Garden State Youth Competition.

The No Hate in the Garden State Youth Competition aims to empower the next generation to work to eliminate bias and discrimination in their communities. Participating youth are invited to elevate their voices to act as community change agents. Participants in the youth competition will be invited to a roundtable discussion in 2025 to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Law Against Discrimination (LAD), the first state civil rights statute to go into effect in the country.

This youth competition builds upon the “No Hate in the Garden State” public awareness campaign launched by Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin earlier this year. The “No Hate in the Garden State” campaign aims to reverse the upward trend in bias incidents in New Jersey and encourage better reporting of bias incidents.

How to Participate:

  1. Create a team with your peers.
  2. Submit your project proposal to the New Jersey Division on Civil Rights.
  3. Attend Virtual Group Sessions.
  4. Develop and execute a project that promotes inclusivity and combats bias in your community.
  5. Submit your final project summary.
