Representation of the Division of Taxation includes litigation in State and Federal court, advice and legislative and regulatory review. Tax cases handled by TREAT involve planning case strategy, conferring with State clients and conducting discovery, trials and hearings against individual taxpayers, small businesses, and many of the most highest profile, multi-national Fortune 500 taxpayers. In addition, the TREAT Section represents the 21 County Boards of Taxation and other State agencies and personnel in local property tax matters. TREAT Deputies appear in Federal Bankruptcy Court on behalf of the Division of Taxation, the Department of Labor and other State agencies. The debt recovery unit of this Section collects significant debt annually, through informal communication and litigation.
