The Acting Attorney General and the Division of Law are pleased to announce the release of a new, updated version of the Department of Law and Public Safety’s Outside Counsel Guidelines. The State of New Jersey frequently hires law firms as Outside Counsel to represent the State in litigation, bond, and other legal matters. The Guidelines for outside counsel were last updated in 2015, and the new Guidelines will address important new topics like ridesharing expenses and updated ethics principles. The new Guidelines will become effective on November 1, 2022.

The new Guidelines are part of a number of new initiatives for Outside Counsel starting this fall. The Division of Law will issue several new Requests for Qualifications for Outside Counsel subject-matter lists starting in late October, so as to refresh some of the existing lists. Firms will be able to apply for the new RFQs using a new online application tool, which will be the subject of a training webinar on October 11.

Anyone interested in representing the State will want to register to hear news and updates about these initiatives here: https://www.njoag.gov/about/divisions-and-offices/division-of-law-home/outside-counsel/

The Acting Attorney General and the Director of the Division of Law will host a webinar at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 14 to give an overview of this fall’s Outside Counsel initiatives. All are invited to attend. Register for the webinar here: https://bit.ly/3Ricm4y
